How do I get my data files ready for RCE with IMPACT?

Updated by Mary Styers

We know you’ve done a lot of hard work to make it to this point. You’ve formulated research goals, tracked down data, and so on. We promise your research reward is just around the corner! In the meantime, we fully support you grabbing a piece of chocolate or other treat as you learn more about how to prepare your data files for RCE with IMPACT™.

What data format is needed to run a RCE with IMPACT?

Data for RCE work should be available in a comma-separated values (CSV) file. The first row in the spreadsheet should contain labels (or headers) that identify all variables in the dataset (e.g., student ID, gender, school). Each row after the first row should contain data for individual participants (e.g., a student or a school). Thus, each column will start with the header that identifies the variable, followed by the data that correspond to its respective row in the cells that follow.

For example, in the selection below, Row 1 contains the headers, row 2 contains data on each variable for student ID 12345, row 3 contains data on each variable for student ID 12346, and so on. This is an example of what multiple datasets look like once they have been merged in the appropriate format for RCE work with IMPACT.

What if I still need help?

During the planning phase of RCE work, your RCE Manager will provide you with documentation of product resources and, when available, sample datasets, to help you locate and export the data you need. Alternatively, you may be asked to contact your provider representative to ask for the data files, if they aren’t readily available within the product platform. Resources will be provided to you during this phase of work as well.

LearnPlatform’s Research team will work to clean and merge your data once all of the necessary components have been shared and confirmed usable. Depending on the complexity and amount of data, this process can take multiple hours for a standard dataset. Due to demand and rigorous processes, LearnPlatform typically requires a 2-week window for our team to prepare the data for a RCE with IMPACT™. You are always welcome to conduct this step on your own, but in most cases, our customers prefer for us to do this. If you would like assistance in preparing your data, please contact our RCE Support Team.

Please review our Data Use Guide for more information regarding data gathering and preparation.
